Abstract
My goal is develop robots that are capable of social interaction with a typical person in most environments. Hence, my research focuses on aspects of human-robot socialization such as relationship development, modeling of one’s interactive partner, trust and deception. Towards the pursuit of these goals I have developed a framework for social action selection, based on interdependence and game theory, that allows a robot to reason about social interactions and react accordingly. Elements of this framework have led to algorithms and software that allow a robot to better interact with a human. I am also interested in how the methods developed as part of the framework can be extended to problems involving multiple robots or software agents. My work is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing from research in game theory, neuroscience, and social psychology. Ideally, I hope that the results of my research will provide insight into phenomena from these other fields. Finally, I hope that the fruits of this
