Abstract
Information and technology within the hands of the farmers means empowerment through control over their resources and decision-making processes. Hence, with the efforts of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) to strengthen the utilization and commercialization of agriculture and natural resources technologies in the countryside, the Farmers ’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) commonly known as Techno Pinoy was conceptualized. Techno Pinoy is an information and technology service center which provides easy access to services to users of agricultural research in the country. It aims to contribute to the empowerment of its intended clients, the lowland and upland farmers, processors, traders and entrepreneurs through the efficient provision of information and technology services. This paper focuses on the program’s strategy to utilize information technology (IT) as a tool to fast track dissemination of agriculture and natural resources information and technologies to clients mentioned above.
