Abstract
Summary. We examine the economical and biological effects of protected patches and harvesting on resource populations. Marine Protected Area (MPA) design is a joint economic and biological problem, and MPA creation alters economic incentives. The purpose of the proposed research is to consider a new bioeconomical model of marine populations via nonlinear differential equations. We study of the dynamic optimization of a harvest policy by choosing the harvest effort as the dynamic variable. Our modelling approach allows us to find the relationships among biological parameters, reserve size, and optimal harvest effort. We will generate a list of testable predictions, e.g. minimum protected area requirements. Our studies will lead to practical recommendations on the choice of the best harvesting
