Abstract
My current research focuses on the development of novel mathematical models and methodologies to aid the integration of the new smart grid technologies into the existing infras-tructure so that power grid can effectively utilize pervasive re-newable energy generation and demand-side management pro-grams, while accommodating stochastic mobile Electric Ve-hicle (EV) demand. This transformation requires widespread sensing, ubiquitous communications, and advanced computing tools. Even though these capabilities are going to increase the overall efficiency and reliability of the grid operations, the corresponding complexity must be carefully addressed. Given that the methods and models employed in the previous century are no longer adequate to architect the new smart grid, my interdisciplinary research theme consolidates perspec-tives from operations research, communication networks, and economics to propose peculiar models for future smart grid infrastructures. To this end, my research interest spans the following fundamental areas in smart grid:
