Abstract
The cardiovascular mortality rate among dialysis patients is approximately 9 percent per year.1 Even after stratification by age, gender, race, and the presence or absence of diabetes, rates remain10 to 20 times higher than in the general population.2 The prevalence of coronary artery disease and left ventricular hypertrophy is 40 percent and 75 percent, respectively, in dialysis patients (CKD stage 5).
