The Nigerian economy is dominated by oil and gas export which contribute about 90 percent of the country’s foreign exchange while the non oil sector which include agriculture, solid mineral, semi-manufacturing and manufacturing contribute the balance of 10 percent. Prior to the 1970s, agricultural exports were Nigeria’s main sources of foreign exchange earnings. During this period, Nigeria was a major exporter of cocoa, cotton, palm oil, groundnuts and rubber.
