Abstract: Problem statement: As we continue to ride out of the current economic recession, employee engagement has become a critical business issue for the organization. It is tough time for Thomson Press to enhance its position as leader in printing industry and stay ahead of competition. Key challenges include identifying the areas of improvement and engaging each and every employee of the organization at an individual level so that everyone benefits-the business, the environment and the workforce. Approach: In order to meet the challenges and to sustain its leadership in the market, Thomson has taken a new initiative “Vaarta-an Employee Engagement survey”. To ensure the objectivity of this process and maintain the confidentiality of the responses, Thomson appointed “hrcraft business consultancy”, an external agency which specializes in conducting such surveys for many reputed organizations. Results: The survey identified areas of strength and weakness of the organization to assess levels of employee engagement and set new priorities for its employees and customer services. It helps officers and managers to gain useful insights, on how their team members engage with their team and then to take specific actions to address areas of concern. Equally, senior leadership will get insights on application of policy of the organization to enhance their motivation and drive. Conclusion: The objective of writing this case is to gain insight into the human resource

Generic Schema Matching with Cupid

by Jayant Madhavan, Philip Bernstein, Erhard Rahm - In The VLDB Journal , 2001
"... Schema matching is a critical step in many applications, such as XML message mapping, data warehouse loading, and schema integration. In this paper, we investigate algorithms for generic schema matching, outside of any particular data model or application. We first present a taxonomy for past s ..."

solutions, showing that a rich range of techniques is available. We then propose a new algorithm, Cupid, that discovers mappings between schema elements based on their names, data types, constraints, and schema structure, using a broader set of techniques than past approaches. Innovative Technique of Message Passing In Loosely Coupled System

by Monika Arya , 2012
"... The basic idea is that whenever we think about distributed system then we say that it is collection of loosely coupled processors where inter nter processor communication takes place by message passing process. Now what happen is that whenever we try to pass message in any user defined distributed s ..."

system then the user is forced to use system's specific objects for message passing. What we mean to say is user cannot use his or her own object to be passes as message. Now here we try to solve this problem using “Innovative Innovative Techniques of message passing in loosely coupled system "

X-means: Extending K-means with Efficient Estimation of the Number of Clusters

by Dau Pelleg, Andrew Moore - In Proceedings of the 17th International Conf. on Machine Learning , 2000
"... Despite its popularity for general clustering, K-means suffers three major shortcomings; it scales poorly computationally, the number of clusters K has to be supplied by the user, and the search is prone to local minima. We propose solutions for the first two problems, and a partial remedy for the t ..."

) measure. The innovations include two new ways of exploiting cached sufficient statistics and a new very efficient test that in one K-means sweep selects the most promising subset of classes for refinement. This gives rise to a fast, statistically founded algorithm that outputs both the number of classes

The Determinants of Credit Spread Changes.

"... ABSTRACT Using dealer's quotes and transactions prices on straight industrial bonds, we investigate the determinants of credit spread changes. Variables that should in theory determine credit spread changes have rather limited explanatory power. Further, the residuals from this regression are ..."

spreads, with most of the remainder attributable to a single systematic factor. Similarly, Duffie and Singleton (1999) find that both credit-risk and liquidity factors are necessary to explain innovations in U.S. swap rates. However, when analyzing the residuals they are unable to find explanatory factors

A classification of schema-based matching approaches

by Pavel Shvaiko - JOURNAL ON DATA SEMANTICS , 2005
"... Schema/ontology matching is a critical problem in many application domains, such as, semantic web, schema/ontology integration, data warehouses, e-commerce, catalog matching, etc. Many diverse solutions to the matching problem have been proposed so far. In this paper we present a taxonomy of schema- ..."

Some innovations are in introducing new criteria which distinguish between matching techniques relying on diverse semantic clues. In particular, we distinguish between heuristic and formal techniques

AN INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE FOR MEASUREMENT OF BUILDING LEAKAGE AT LOW PRESSURES

by Edward Cooper, David Etheridge
"... Conventional techniques for the measurement of adventitious leakage of building envelopes are based on steady pressurisation at high pressures (e.g. 50 Pa) that are not normally encountered with natural or mechanical ventilation. It is the leakage at low pressures (e.g. 4 Pa) that is of interest and ..."
