"... Abstract — A variety of wireless technologies have been standardized and commercialized, but no single solution is considered the best to satisfy all communication needs due to different coverage and bandwidth limitations. Therefore, internetworking between heterogeneous wireless networks is extreme ..."

propose a novel design of chained authentication methods under 3G-WLAN internetworking. The experiments show that proactive context transfer and ticket forwarding reduce the 3G authentication latency to 36.8 % and WLAN EAP-TLS latency to 23.1 % when RTT between visiting and home networks is 200 ms.
Term-weighting approaches in automatic text retrieval
- INFORMATION PROCESSING AND MANAGEMENT
, 1988
"... The experimental evidence accumulated over the past 20 years indicates that text indexing systems based on the assignment of appropriately weighted single terms produce retrieval results that are superior to those obtainable with other more elaborate text representations. These results depend crucia ..."

The Design and Implementation of a Log-Structured File System
- ACM Transactions on Computer Systems
, 1992
"... This paper presents a new technique for disk storage management called a log-structured file system. A logstructured file system writes all modifications to disk sequentially in a log-like structure, thereby speeding up both file writing and crash recovery. The log is the only structure on disk; it ..."

R-trees: A Dynamic Index Structure for Spatial Searching
- INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MANAGEMENT OF DATA
, 1984
"... In order to handle spatial data efficiently, as required in computer aided design and geo-data applications, a database system needs an index mechanism that will help it retrieve data items quickly according to their spatial locations However, traditional indexing methods are not well suited to data ..."

Bigtable: A distributed storage system for structured data
- IN PROCEEDINGS OF THE 7TH CONFERENCE ON USENIX SYMPOSIUM ON OPERATING SYSTEMS DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION - VOLUME 7
, 2006
"... Bigtable is a distributed storage system for managing structured data that is designed to scale to a very large size: petabytes of data across thousands of commodity servers. Many projects at Google store data in Bigtable, including web indexing, Google Earth, and Google Finance. These applications ..."

A statistical interpretation of term specificity and its application in retrieval
- Journal of Documentation
, 1972
"... Abstract: The exhaustivity of document descriptions and the specificity of index terms are usually regarded as independent. It is suggested that specificity should be interpreted statistically, as a function of term use rather than of term meaning. The effects on retrieval of variations in term spec ..."

descriptions, and specificity one of index terms. They are most clearly illustrated by a simple keyword or descriptor system. In this case the exhaustivity of a document description is the coverage of its various topics given by the terms assigned to it; and the specificity of an individual term is the level
Space-time block codes from orthogonal designs
- IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory
, 1999
"... Abstract — We introduce space–time block coding, a new paradigm for communication over Rayleigh fading channels using multiple transmit antennas. Data is encoded using a space–time block code and the encoded data is split into streams which are simultaneously transmitted using transmit antennas. ..."

possible transmission rate using arbitrary complex constellations. The best tradeoff between the decoding delay and the number of transmit antennas is also computed and it is shown that many of the codes presented here are optimal in this sense as well. Motivation through the Design of Work: Test of a Theory. Organizational Behavior and Human Performance,
, 1976
"... A model is proposed that specifies the conditions under which individuals will become internally motivated to perform effectively on their jobs. The model focuses on the interaction among three classes of variables: (a) the psychological states of employees that must be present for internally motiv ..."

different tasks and rest periods are cycled, then the long-term usefulness of the technique would seem to be limited. In either case, the potential for applying activation theory to the design of jobs may be limited mainly to those cases in which there are actively dysfunctional affective and behavioral
Formal Ontology and Information Systems
, 1998
"... Research on ontology is becoming increasingly widespread in the computer science community, and its importance is being recognized in a multiplicity of research fields and application areas, including knowledge engineering, database design and integration, information retrieval and extraction. We sh ..."

Surround-screen projection-based virtual reality: The design and implementation of the CAVE
, 1993

Abstract Several common systems satisfy some but not all of the VR This paper describes the CAVE (CAVE Automatic Virtual Environment) virtual reality/scientific visualization system in detail and demonstrates that projection technology applied to virtual-reality goals achieves a system that matches ..."
