Purpose: We have a crisis in health care delivery, originating from increasing health care costs and inconsistent quality-of-care measures. During the past several years, value-based health care delivery has gained increasing attention as an ap-proach to control costs and improve quality. One proven way to control costs and improve the quality of health care is subspe-cialty pathologic review of patients with cancer before initiation of therapy. Our study examined the diagnostic error rate among patients with cancer treated at a tertiary care hospital and dem-onstrated the value of subspecialty pathologic review before ini-tiation of treatment.

Mutual Fund Flows and Performance in Rational Markets

by Jonathan B. Berk, Richard C. Green , 2002
"... We develop a simple rational model of active portfolio management that provides a natural benchmark against which to evaluate observed relationship between returns and fund flows. Many effects widely regarded as anomalous are consistent with this simple explanation. In the model, investments with ac ..."

with active managers do not outperform passive benchmarks because of the competitive market for capital provision, combined with decreasing returns to scale in active portfolio management. Consequently, past performance cannot be used to predict future returns, or to infer the average skill level of active

BIP: a new protocol designed for high performance networking on Myrinet

by Loic Prylli, Bernard Tourancheau - In Workshop PC-NOW, IPPS/SPDP98 , 1998
"... Abstract. High speed networks are now providing incredible performances. Software evolution is slow and the old protocol stacks are no longer adequate for these kind of communication speed. When bandwidth increases, the latency should decrease as much in order to keep the system balance. With the cu ..."

INVESTIGATION OF STRATEGIES TO DECREASE FOOD WASTE IN COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY FOODSERVICE

by Kelly J. Whitehair
"... This study used two operational research components to explore strategies to decrease waste in university dining facilities. Component one assessed students ’ beliefs and behaviors toward food waste in a selected dining center. The relationships between students ’ food waste behavior, sustainability ..."

Curb Your "Wastism": Interplay Between the Abundance Mindset and Non-Abundance Cues on Waste

by Meng Zhu , Ajay Kalra , Darren W Dahl , Gita V Johar , Duluth, MN : Stijn M J Van Osselaer
"... We theorize that people are in a default abundance mindset, which accentuates the need for convenience in consumption and consequently increases waste. We demonstrate that non-abundance cues can trigger a conservation goal and decrease waste in unrelated domains. Interestingly, this decrease vanish ..."

Characterization of atmospheric ammonia emissions from swine waste storage and treatment

by Viney P. Aneja, J. P. Chauhan, J. T. Walker , 2000
"... Abstract. Fluxes of atmospheric ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N, where NH3-N 5 (14/17)NH3) from an anaerobic;2.5 ha (1 ha 5 10,000 m 2) commercial hog waste storage lagoon were measured during the summer of 1997 through the spring of 1998 in order to study the seasonal variability in emissions of NH3-N and ..."

Planning Hazardous Waste Reduction and Treatment Strategies: An Optimization Approach

by Brian W. Baetz, Eric I. Pas, P. Aarne Vesilind - Waste Management & Research , 1989
"... An industry faced with escalating off-site waste disposal costs will often consider increasing on-site waste treatment capacity or the implementation of a waste reduction program. Waste reduction program options include input and process changes that decrease waste quantity and waste toxicity. Trade ..."
