General internists are estimated to spend 25-50 % of their time evaluating patients presenting with psychiatric symptoms and disorders. Many patients are unwilling to seek care from mental health professionals, but will accept treatment from their internist. Residents may select a one-month psychiatry elective during their second or third year of residency. All residents during the PGY-2 or PGY-3 year participate in a two week Psychiatry rotation. During this rotation the resident will develop an understanding of common psychiatric diagnoses and their initial management. Residents will gain experience in assessing competency to accept or refuse treatment. Informed consent and patient confidentiality will be discussed. Teaching Methods The resident will evaluate inpatients for which psychiatric consultation has been requested and evaluate outpatients in the psychiatric consultation clinic and private psychiatrist’s office. The resident will then participate with the psychiatrist in decisions regarding appropriate work-up, diagnostic assessment and treatment options. Disease Mix During the elective, the resident will: A. Learn and perform a mental status exam. B. Become familiar with DSM-IV axis system. C. Become familiar with DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for:

This paper presents a novel idea in teaching computer architecture by using programmable hardware. Current teaching models for computer architecture today are either mostly theory-only or implementation oriented. Theory-based architecture courses lack the feedback to show students the effects of their decisions. Implementation-oriented instruction emphasizes the implementation aspects, that is, very low-level implementation strategies, over CPU architecture and forces the usage of very limited CPU designs to reduce complexity. High cost and long manufacturing times are other problems associated with this approach. We propose to use field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to allow fast implementation of chip designs. This allows for a fast debug cycle, as designs can be altered and downloaded in a matter of hours. As FPGAs are pretested, only logic functionality has to be validated, reducing the time to get a workable implementation of a chip considerably. 1 Introduction Current compu...

The acoustics of a room can be visualized by plotting image sources at the positions where they occur. Recently, the image-source method has been extended to include edge diffrac-tion, and a visualization technique for image sources including diffraction (edge image sources) has been presented. Visual-ization is performed in analogous fashion with visualization of mirror image sources. The receiver-relative direction and dis-tance correspond to the direction from which the sound reaches a receiver and the length of the propagation path, respectively. First-order edge diffraction is presented as curved line sources, and second-order edge diffraction as surface sources. As exam-ples, first-order diffraction in a stage-house, and second-order diffraction around a loudspeaker enclosure are visualized. 1.
