"... The surficial geology of the Antioch Quadrangle is primarily the result of glacial activity of the last (Wisconsin Episode) glaciation occurring between about 25,000 and 14,000 radiocarbon years ago. During this period, diamicton (a mixture of clay, silt, sand, and rocks) was deposited under, on top ..."

States depended, in part, on the scaling of the 31 October 1895 earthquake as an M 6.8 event. Returning the M of the 1895 earthquake to a previously accepted value range of M 5.9 to M 6.2, and permitting the distance between the epicenter and the resulting liquefaction sites to vary, lowers the M

Pore size distribution (PSD) of microporous carbon is often associated with studies on gas separation and storage by physical adsorption, and heterogeneous catalysis. Many methods have been proposed to determine the PSD based on N2 77 K adsorption isotherm. Typical examples are MP (by Mikhail et al.), JC (Jaroniec and Choma), HI ( (Horvath and Kawazoe) and SNAP (by Seaton et al.) methods. ~'2 In this paper, an alternative way is proposed to calculate the PSD of three select activated carbon fibers (ACFs) using a model adsorption isotherm equation derived from statistical mechanical principles. Modeling results are compared with those obtained by three typical methods: MP, JC and HK. N2 77 K adsorption isotherms (Fig 1) for ACFs were taken from Cal. a The Isotherm Equation and PSD Determination The semi-empirical DR and DA equations have been used

WATER SORPT ION PROPERTIES OF HOMOIONIC MONTMORILLONITE * W. ARTI-IUR WRITE Illinois State Geological Survey
"... Homoionic samples of four montmorillonite clays, selected on the basis of the prop-erties which control their economic uses, were prepared by treating with two normal neutral solutions of ammonium acetate, lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, and mag-nesium chloride. Atterberg plastic and liquid lim ..."

limits, slopes of the liquid limit curves, and water sorption curves were determined. Among the results suggested, the follow-ing are particularly considered: 1. The plastic state is reached when enough water is put into the system to fill all the pore space and to supply all the montmorillonite layers
