Abstract:
As the size and complexity of managed networks grows, it is increasingly important that administrators have help managing them. The SNMP standard which has become widespread in use is a first reply to their needs. However SNMP is a basic language and leads to centralized management which is not acceptable for the management of enterprise-wide networks. To overcome these deficiencies, this paper proposes an integrated resource management language (IDEAL) which offers a high level syntax for the quick development of network, system and service management applications. Delegation which is an application of mobile code technology, is introduced to minimize both the use of resources at the network level and processing time at the manager level.
