Abstract:
This paper evaluates the performance achieved by voice trac when using Expedited Forwarding (EF) and Assured Forwarding (AF) schemes in a Dierentiated Services (DS) environment. The mutual in
uence of the two schemes is evaluated when: (i) a controlled amount of voice bursts are allowed into a DS domain; (ii) in the presence of an increasing number of voice
ows handled by EF; and (iii) for dierent best-eort packet sizes. Results show that allowing controlled EF trac bursts into a DS domain does not signicantly increase the delay and jitter of the AF trac if idle periods from EF trac do not become scarce. Results also show that dierent best-eort packet sizes exert a stronger in
uence on the delay of AF packets than on the delay of EF packets.
