Abstract:

The evolution of today's computer networks to higher bandwidths and increased connectivity to a wider range of end-user devices will further exacerbate the need for adaptive streaming solutions. Motivated by these adaptive streaming techniques, we introduce the notion of a malleable presentation and outline a framework for the transmission of such presentations across heterogeneous networks to different end-user devices. We devise a method for partitioning a schedule into independent segments. Our adaptive scheduling scheme uses the segmentation scheme to efficiently make schedule changes for delivering the highest quality presentation based on specified network bandwidth and device constraints. 1
