adaptive control of output-feedback nonlinear systems (1993) [1 citations — 1 self]
Abstract:
Existing results in adaptive control of discrete-time nonlinear systems are severely limited in their capacity for global stability: they can only achieve this goal by imposing restrictive linear growth conditions on the system nonlinearities. This is due to the fact that these results borrow estimation and control methods from the adaptive control literature for either discrete-time linear plants or continuoustime nonlinear plants and can thus not cope with the highly nonlinear estimation problems that arise in the discretetime nonlinear case. In this paper we propose a novel approach which guarantees global stability and regulation for the class of discrete-time output-feedback nonlinear systems. There are no growth conditions imposed on the nonlinearities; however, since we assume that only the output is available for measurement, the nonlinearities are required to depend only on that output. Our approach represents a drastic departure from traditional "certainty-equivalence"-based schemes, since it adopts a two-part control strategy which begins with a finite-duration active identification phase followed by the actual control phase. 1
