Abstract:

Distributed artificial intelligence (DAI) is concerned with solving problems by applying both artificial intelligence techniques and multiple problem solvers. One of the critical research issue of cooperative problem solving by groups is the avoidance, detection and resolution of conflicts among the participants. The conflict management plays the key role in cooperative problem solving e.g. in concurrent engineering. This work thus includes theoretical groundwork, empirical studies and implemented conflict management systems for human and computational agents. In this paper, we analyze the conflicts in DAI, describe most of strategies for conflict resolution in current research, evaluate the ability of each approach and propose our strategies to solve conflicts. Key words: negotiation; conflict resolution; distributed artificial intelligence.
