Abstract: A quantum trajectory describes the evolution of a continuously monitored quantum system conditioned on the measurement record. In this thesis I consider quantum trajectories for optical measurement schemes, such as direct and homodyne detection. Those for heterodyne detection and detection in the presence of white noise are derived for the first time. The quantum trajectories for various systems are investigated analytically and numerically, and their interpretation discussed. The principle... (Update)
