Abstract: VIENA Classroom is a distance education system in which the teaching material is prepared as
hypermedia documents and presented to the students within a CSCW environment. By means of a
multimodal natural language interface the students can ask questions in plain Japanese which
are answered by accessing a FAQ knowledge base. Linguistic analysis is performed in an
integrated framework with the knowledge base by applying deductive object-oriented database
technology. (Update)
