Abstract: Heterogeneous networks are composed of a mixture of wired and wireless links. Current transmission control protocol (TCP) implementations have been designed to work well in networks made up exclusively of wired links. In this environment, error rates are very low and packet losses may be attributed almost entirely to network congestion. The proper response for a TCP sender when packets are lost in this situation is to decrease throughput in order to prevent the network congestion from becoming... (Update)
