Abstract

Both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells establish complex adhesion-based relationships with their microenvironment. Single-cell bacteria (myxobacter) and amoeba, for example, display social behaviors that include adhesion to substrata and each other (Hodgkin and Kaiser, (See poster insert) Cell Science at a Glance 3923 1979; Swaney et al., 2010).
