Abstract
Forward Error Correction (FEC) is an error resilience mechanism that refers to the injection of redundant packets into the networks in addition to the actual packets. It can be incorporated into video streaming applications which have time constraints. Systematic Raptor Codes which are currently the best approximation of Fountain codes are recommended for many transmission platforms such as 3GPP MBMS, IETF and DVB. In this paper, we provide information how Raptor codes can be used in video streaming systems and present the performance results we obtained with a 3GPP MBMS simulator software.
