Abstract
Abstract. The paper reports the main results obtained during a sounding rocket experiment about the effect of gravity and electric field on nucleate pool boiling of saturated FC72 on a wire. The effect of gravitational and electric forces on the nucleate pool boiling regime have been experimentally studied. The nucleate boiling region has been found to narrow at low gravity (corresponding to a decreasing critical heat flux, CHF) and to widen thanks to the action of an imposed electric field, that increases the CHF value. Both nucleate boiling heat transfer and CHF becomes insensitive to gravity beyond a certain threshold of the applied electric field.
