Abstract
INTRODUCTION In Part I of this review we will discuss the comparison between analytic and Monte Carlo results in intermediate volumes for SU(2) gauge theory. Part II will concentrate on the Monte Carlo method, in particular the recent progress for finding operators with a large overlap with the glueball wave functions. The outline of Part I is as follows. We will first give the Monte Carlo data for SU(2) pure gauge theory obtained since last year's lattice conference at Seillac. 1 Michael, Tickle and Teper 2 found the mass for the T + 2 glueball in intermediate volumes to disagree with last year's analytic prediction. 3 Vohwinkel 4 showed that this discrepancy could be resolved by a change in associating electric flux quantum numbers to the T + 2 state. We discuss the present status of these issues. Next we say a few things about an effective Lagrangian used by Kripfganz and Michael 5 to calculate the intermediate volume lo
