Abstract
Impact of quality of support on recovery of Bypass surgery patients A person living in a society is surrounded by people who form a network. It is this social network from where individuals draw and look for their social support at the time of crisis. Scholars across the world have shown a close association between quality (degree and density) of support network and recovery of sick. However literatures available in India relating quality of support network and its association with people who have undergone bypass surgery seems to be lacking. This prompted to explore the field and depict the association of quality of support network with recover as perceived by patients themselves. Data were collected from men who have undergone bypass surgery 1 month prior to data collection; first month being the recovery period and support system is presumed to be active during post operative duration 2-4 months. Interview schedule was used for interviewing patients. Data collected were analysed with the help of SPSS 20. The graphs shows the exact degree and density required by a person to recover faster and correlations of degree and density with recovery shows significance of p<0.001. From this it can be concluded that it is possible to let people who are about to undergo these treatments to understand how many people should be involved and roles can be assigned to them as support givers.
