Abstract
difficult decisions in June based on the budget that was passed by the General Assembly. Governor Quinn has exercised powers granted to him by the Emergency Budget Act to make some changes in the Board’s recommended budget. He has chosen to increase several line items, including Advanced Placement Classes, After School Matters, Agricultural Education, Arts and Foreign Language, Bilingual Education and Early Childhood Education. In addition, the Governor also reduced the Regular/Vocational Transportation Mandated Categorical line by $65 million. The Governor’s reduction, coupled with the $81 million reduction in the budget approved by the General Assembly, means this line item has now been reduced by 42 percent or $146 million. A reduction of this size will translate into substantially reduced reimbursements to districts. We have posted a final spreadsheet on the budget page of our website at
