Abstract
gy, which relies on exploiting regularities /consistencies in the mapping between sounds and letters (e.g., phoneme--grapheme rules). This two-strategy assumption has been incorporated into a number of spelling models (e.g., Barry & Seymour, 1988; Ellis, 1984; Kreiner, 1992) and is supported by both behavioural and neuropsychological evidence (e.g., Barry & Seymour, 1988; Goodman-Schulman & Caramazza, 1987; Kreiner & Gough, 1990).
