Abstract
Many mobility models have been proposed for the simulation of mobile ad hoc networking applications. However, none of the existing models integrates the sociological dimension of user movement. We argue that the mobility of a mobile user is highly influenced by his relationships to other users and, thus, by the social network he is embedded in. Therefore, we propose a social mobility model that takes an arbitrarily shaped model of a social network and turns it into a simulation. This simulation lets users meet each other according to the relations in the original social network. We offer experimental results that prove that this simulation accurately reproduces the relations between users in the input network. Furthermore, we show that the typical structural properties of a social network are preserved. Finally, we sketch a possible way to integrate our social model into existing mobility models to produce more realistic simulations.
