Abstract: Technologies based on cable modems currently use the capacity of a single TV channel to offer 25 - 30 Mb/s downstream for Internet access. With the advent of Digital TV and the significant bandwidth savings it gleans from video compression, it is expected that providers will increase the access capacity available for IP traffic, while retaining the bulk of the bandwidth for the primary service of broadcast TV.
