Abstract: Active Networks permit applications to dynamically load custom programs in order to perform desired operations on user traffic. This innovative approach to networking offers a tractable solution to achieving endto -end performance improvements, and allows protocols and services to be deployed rapidly. In this paper we introduce the Application Level Active Networking (ALAN) system, and discuss how we can use this system to provide multicast services for distributed applications. We... (Update)
