Abstract: Introduction
Computer performance has increased rapidly for a number of years. In addition to the improvements
in architecture and implementation techniques, cache memories have been utilized in memory
hierarches to reduce memory latency and bus traffic. A large amount of research has been done to
increase the performance of cache memories. This work is unique in that it optimizes the memory
hierarchy to decrease the energy consumption of portable computers.
