Emotion is a “double-edged sword ” that can either enhance or hinder various aspects of our cognition and behavior. The emotional charge of an event can increase atten-tion to and memory for that event, whereas task-irrelevant emotional information may lead to increased distraction and impaired performance in ongoing cognitive tasks. These opposing effects of emotion can be identified at different levels, both within the same cognitive process and across different processes, and could also be identified at more general levels, such as in the case of the response to stress. The present review discusses emerging evidence regarding factors that influence oppo-site effects of emotion on cognition in healthy functioning, and how they may be linked to clinical conditions. These issues are important for understanding mech-anisms of emotion-cognition interactions in healthy functioning and in emotional disturbances, where both of these effects are exacerbated and tend to co-occur. Over-all, the present review highlights the need to consider the various factors that can influence enhancing or impairing effects of emotion on cognition, in studies investi-gating emotion-cognition interactions.

Abstract. In this paper, we investigate the issue of modeling corporate entities ’ online reputation. We introduce a bayesian latent probabilistic model approach for e-Reputation analysis based on Dimensions (Rep-utational Concepts) Categorization and Opinion Mining from textual content. Dimensions to analyze e-Reputation are set up by analyst as latent variables. Machine Learning (ML) Natural Language Processing (NLP) approaches are used to label large sets of text passages. For each Dimension, several estimations of the relationship with each text passage are computed as well as Opinion and Priority. The proposed automatic path modeling algorithm explains Opinion or Priority scores based on se-lected Dimensions. Model Robustness ’ is evaluated over RepLab dataset. 1

Arousal-Biased Competition theory suggests that arousal enhances competitive attentional processes, but makes no strong claims about valence effects. Recent research suggests that the scope of enhanced attention depends on valence with negative arousal narrowing and positive arousal broadening attention. Attentional scope likely affects declarative-memorymediated and perceptual-representation-mediated learning systems differently, with declarativememory-mediated learning depending on narrow attention to develop targeted verbalizable rules, and perceptual-representation-mediated learning depending on broad attention to develop a perceptual representation. We hypothesize that negative arousal accentuates declarativememory-mediated learning and attenuates perceptual-representation-mediated learning, while positive arousal reverses this pattern. Prototype learning provides an ideal test bed as dissociable declarative-memory and perceptual-representation systems mediate two-prototype (AB) and oneprototype (AN) prototype learning, respectively, and computational models are available that provide powerful insights on cognitive processing. As predicted, we found that negative arousal narrows attentional focus facilitating AB learning and impairing AN learning, while positive arousal broadens attentional focus facilitating AN learning and impairing AB learning.

This work analyzed the perceptual attributes of natural dynamic audiovisual scenes. We presented thirty participants with 19 natural scenes in a similarity categorization task, followed by a semi-structured interview. The scenes were reproduced with an immersive audiovisual display. Natural scene perception has been studied mainly with unimodal settings, which have identified motion as one of the most salient attributes related to visual scenes, and sound intensity along with pitch trajectories related to auditory scenes. However, controlled laboratory experiments with natural multimodal stimuli are still scarce. Our results show that humans pay attention to similar perceptual attributes in natural scenes, and a two-dimensional perceptual map of the stimulus scenes and perceptual attributes was obtained in this work. The exploratory results show the amount of movement, perceived noisiness, and eventfulness of the scene to be the most important perceptual attributes in naturalistically reproduced real-world urban environments. We found the scene gist properties openness and expansion to remain as important factors in scenes with no salient auditory or visual events. We propose that the study of scene perception should move forward to understand better the processes behind multimodal scene processing in real-world environments. We publish our stimulus scenes as spherical video recordings and sound field recordings in a publicly available database.
