This paper describes an integrated information modeling language called NCL which combines the features of IDL and EXPRESS as well as the features of the association types and knowledge rule specifications offered by the Object-oriented Semantic Association Model (OSAM*). In this language, frequently used constraints are specified by keywords, association types among object classes are specified in association specifications, behavioral properties of objects are defined in method specifications, and complex semantic constraints of various types are specified by EventCondition -Action-AlternativeAction (ECAA) rules. ECAA rules also provide a mechanism for specifying the control relationships among various servers in a heterogeneous computing environment.
