In Method Engineering (ME) science, the key issue is the consideration of information system development methods as fragments. Numerous ME approaches have produced several definitions of method parts. Different in nature, these fragments have nevertheless some common disadvantages: lack of implementation tools, insufficient standardization effort, and so on. On the whole, the observed drawbacks are related to the shortage of usage orientation. We have proceeded to an in-depth analysis of existing method fragments within a comparison framework in order to identify their drawbacks. We suggest overcoming them by an improvement of the “method service” concept. In this paper, the method service is defined through the service paradigm applied to a specific method fragment – chunk. A discussion on the possibility to develop a unique representation of method fragment completes our contribution.

Abstract. Current environments are dynamic. For surviving, organisations should be adaptable to and interoperable with these environments; their Business Processes (BPs) have to provide means to suit the effectiveness requirements. The most important success factors are flexibility and adaptability. Situational engineering has proved its effectiveness, in terms of flexibility and reuse, in many engineering domains such as software and IS development. So reasoning on a situational approach is a challenging research work which can contribute to increase flexibility of models and their adaptability to different organisation settings. The paper deals with creating meta-models for BP modelling which adapt to the situation at hand. Keywords: BP Modelling, Meta-modelling, Flexibility, Adaptability. 1

Abstract. There are many different process meta-models that offer different viewpoints of a same process: activity oriented, product oriented, decision oriented, context oriented and strategy oriented. However, the complementarity between their concepts is not explicit and there is no consensus about the concepts themselves. This problem leads to inadequate process meta-models with organization needs, so the instantiated models do not correspond to the specific demands and constraints of the organizations or projects. However,, method engineers should be able to build process metamodels according to the specific organization needs. We propose a method to build unified, fitted and multi-viewpoints process meta-models. The process engineering method is based on a process domain model and on patterns.
