Abstract: This article gives an overview of research and education in the area of spoken language systems at the Computer Science Department, ”Politehnica ” University of Timis¸oara. Research results include language resources built as foundations for all other activities, as well as automatic systems for speech signal labeling, speech recognition, speech understanding, and text-to-speech conversion, now about to be integrated in spoken dialog systems.
