leading to a major in Information Science within the BCom, BA and BSc degrees. In addition to undergraduate teaching, the department is also strongly involved in postgraduate research programmes leading to MCom, MA, MSc and PhD degrees. Research projects in spatial information processing, connectionist-based information systems, software engineering and software development, information engineering and database, software metrics, distributed information systems, multimedia information systems and information systems security are particularly well supported. Abstract. Workflow management systems (WfMS) should address the needs of rapidly changing business environments We have built a multi-agent based framework, JBees, which addresses these needs. We evaluate our agent based workflow system modelled using Petri nets with the proposed standards for various workflow patterns and communication patterns. The coloured Petri net model supports the workflow patterns and the FIPA compliant agent framework supports the communication patterns. The agent based communication patterns along with the workflow patterns make the workflow management system equipped with a comprehensive set of capabilities such as adaptability and distribution. 1
