... observes, in traditional Turkish education the teachers’ role has been to interpret the texts and the students’ role to memorise the teachers’ words, which is hardly the best preparation for self-managed, socio-constructivist learning. It is also the case that most students simply want a qualification to gain employment and have little interest in education per se. Some even attempt shortcuts by buying pirated crammers that fail to prepare them properly for the examinations. Researching the self-efficacy beliefs, self-management abilities and achievements of these distance learning students, Ergul (2004) concludes that it is important for instructional designers and tutors to provide more extrinsic motivation and feedback, something that is becoming more achievable now that increasing numbers of students are on the Internet and able to join online learning communities. There is no national quality assurance system in Turkish higher education, and the Open Education System has a monopoly in Turkish distance learning, so two of the principal justifications for quality assurance are lacking—a requirement to be accountable for standards and a competitive environment. Parity of esteem has been slo...

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Arab Open University students' use of blended learning using the metrics of confidence, motivation, satisfaction and performance. A quantitative research methodology is used based on an on-line questionnaire survey. The findings indicated that blended learning has a significant contribution to the students' degree of confidence, degree of motivation, perceived satisfaction and overall performance. The results of this research provided a body of knowledge for educational institutions and faculty to emphasize the importance of the students' confidence and motivation in promoting the use of blended learning and the significance of blended learning to the improvement of the students' learning satisfaction and performance.

...ique [6][7], was applied. It refers to the sampling by obtaining the units (students) who are most conveniently available, that is available in the campus while distributing the questionnaire in-person, and available on the Learning Management System (LMS) website and happened to see the announcement for the questionnaire link. It is most appropriate for conducting an Internet survey, as the AOU students are computer and Internet users. Only the students who have access to LMS will see the questionnaire link announced by the LMS administrators, so they can easily visit the survey and solve it [8][9]. This study focuses on learners ’ self-regulation which is one of the essential skills for student achievement in blended courses. Research on learners ’ self-regulation skills in blended learning environments has gained popularity in recent years however only a few studies investigating the correlation between self-regulation skills and student achievement in blended learning environments exist. Self-regulation is related to self-efficacy, anxiety, interactivity, satisfaction with and usefulness of the system. Self-regulated learners are more likely to accomplish at online learning. In this study, a total of 267 military vocational college students were taught computer programming during a 15-week-long semester in a blended learning context, which involved using both face to face teaching and online learning through MOODLE over intranet. Participants were the graduates of vocational high schools and the students at the departments of Computer Technologies and Electronics & Communication Technologies and were all male. Liaw and Huang’s Self-Regulation Scale with six subscales was used to collect the data during the last two weeks of instruction. Regression analyses were conducted to analyze the data. The results revealed that self-regulation was affected by perceived anxiety, interactivity in the online learning environment, and perceived self-efficacy. Learners ’ academic achievement has been affected only by perceived self-efficacy.

Online education has expanded and is expected to continue growing rapidly in time along with technological innovations. It is obvious that there is a movement toward online learning which necessitates the need of more empirical evidence on effective learning and learners ’ achievement. This study investigated effect of the variables: demographics (age, gender, being employed/unemployed, and computer efficacy); Internet self-efficacy; satisfaction (student-student, student-instructor, student-content interaction); and the reasons for online education preferences of students ’ on their achievement. Differing from previous studies the current study particularly investigates the effect of students ’ reasons for their preferences of distance education on their success besides all other variables. The results indicated that there is a positive correlation between students ’ reasons for their preferences of distance education and their achievement scores which was measured by their final test scores. Besides, according to results of the regression analyses, preferences related to achievement was the only variable to affect regression equation in the online course regression analyses. That was accounted for about 5.1 % of the variance in students ’ final grades.

The purpose of this study was to expose a group of Iranian students to an e-Learning program and find out the effects of this exposure on their learning and motivation strategies. This study made an attempt to evaluate the degree of strategy use in both traditional and e-Learning modes of learning. Moreover, the effects of the e-Learning program of the participants of the study on learning strategies, motivation and volition regarding sex, age, educational degree and internet literacy were sought. The data for this study were collected from 100 Iranian EFL students (62 females and 38 males) who were exposed to an e-Learning class for a period of two months. The students were mostly mature and educated studying at university or holding a degree. This study used a translated and modified version of the MSLQ (Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire), a volitional questionnaire, a demography questionnaire and a series of interviews with the students and teachers involved in this research. Regarding the theoretical framework of the study, self-regulation was adopted. The data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively to find out the changes the students might undergo moving from conventional mode of learning to e-Learning and get some insights for prospective e-Learning programs in Iran.
