This project's aim is to implement an experimental extension for TCP, the NGTCP standard, for the Linux operating system. This document describes the design and implementation of NGTCP , and presents some comparative analysis between NGTCP and TCP based on the number of packets per session and the response time for short transaction-oriented connections.

Current network architecture and conventional protocols address issues relating to Data / Voice or Video in specific rather then Multimedia as a whole entity. TCP primarily strives to handle Data, ATM for faster switching and QoS, VoIP for Voice and/or data over conventional IP. Although all these services provide multimedia services in part or whole but lack a whole dedicated framework and architecture specifically for Multimedia services. With onset of next generation mobile devices and in conjunction with high-speed net access, the need of such a framework is even more essential than ever before. With dramatic increase in portability and ease of network access it becomes natural for users to expect high quality, live multimedia applications anytime and from anywhere and to transparently remain connected and continue to use the network as they move about. This paper proposes such a framework for multimedia application for next generation mobile devices which would provide 1) a generic protocol stack for such devices 2) Provide interoperability between different protocols 3) enable end-to-end QoS based cost acceptable provision of IP multimedia services in the next generation mobile networks.
