In this lead article for Advancing the Frontiers of Simulation: A Festschrift in Honor of George Samuel Fishman, we survey briefly George’s professional career, summarizing his most significant contributions to the disciplines of operations research and the management sciences. We give special emphasis to George’s remarkable accomplishments in helping to lay the foundation for the field of computer simulation and advancing that field over the past five decades.
