The scope of this doctoral research refers to the issue of the energy infrastructural investments, which is at present a topic of extreme relevance in our country. This issue will be investigated from two different points of view: the effects of the siting process (at national, regional and local level) and the effects of the ownership pattern (at firm level) on the investments. In the following sections, we will focus only on the first research direction; anyway it is worth providing some references to the second field, to understand the reasons why the ownership pattern (and the corporate governance) of firms may be relevant for the infrastructural investments. In perfects markets (with complete contracts and absence of asymmetric information) it is acknowledged that the ownership pattern of enterprises does not make any difference, according to the theory of the irrelevance of ownership.
