Abstract: Calibration is defined as a performance comparison against a standard of known accuracy. One can observe that manufacturing firms outsource their calibration activities to calibration services which are designed to manage the customer’s entire calibration needs. In this paper a web-based system is described that allows the costumers to manage their calibration function on-line from their own personal computer. The users can access key calibration information even when they are under way using their laptop.

This paper discusses the past, present, and future of length and dimensional measurements at NIST. It covers the evolution of the SI unit of length through its three definitions and the evolution of NBS-NIST dimensional measurement from early linescales and gage blocks to a future of atom-based dimensional standards. Current capabilities include dimensional measurements over a range of fourteen orders of magnitude. Uncertain-ties of measurements on different types of material artifacts range down to 710–8 m at 1 m and 8 picometers (pm) at 300 pm. Current work deals with a broad

An implementation of the Estler face motion reversal technique [1] is presented that allows for the separation of the axial and tilt error motions of an axis of rotation from the circular flatness of a measured part. A single probe method is used that has practical applications in testing spindle type roundness measuring instruments. The method and experimental results are presented.
