SNCF is a large railway transportation company that operates 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. In order to schedule a certain category of workers at train stations and ticket selling points, rosters are designed to cover a cyclical demand. However, the highly combinatorial nature of the rostering problem makes it very difficult to solve it manually, and experts spend a huge amount of time to make them legally feasible and to improve a certain number of preference criteria. This paper presents a mixed-integer programming model to address the cyclical rostering problem using patterns corresponding to feasible blocks of seven days and assigning them to each week of the roster. Some valid inequalities are presented to improve the linear relaxation of the model and thereby enhance computational performance. Implementation results are presented, including comparisons with an alternative daily-variables model Povzetek: Opisano je optimirano cikli?no razporejanje delavcev z aplikacijo za podjetje SNCF. 1

ABSTRACT In this paper we consider a three-day workweek scheduling problem with three realistic daysoff scheduling constraints: (1) at least two off days per week must be consecutive, (2), employees must get a given proportion of weekends off, and (3) the number of consecutive workdays in any work stretch cannot exceed four. An integer programming model is formulated and efficiently solved by an algorithm that involves three stages: (1) determining the minimum workforce size by primal-dual relations, (2) adding a workforce-size constraint to the integer programming model to expedite its solution, and (3) constructing fair and feasible multiple-week rotation schedules.

Abstract Most ergonomic workforce scheduling problems (WSPs) are concerned with developing daily work schedules for industrial workers so as to prevent their daily hazard exposures from exceeding a permissible limit. In this paper, we consider the WSP with a planning period that covers several workdays. Additionally, allowable days off are included in the work schedules. It is assumed that all workers working at the same workstation (or in the same work area) are exposed to the same hazard level. Daily operation schedules of workstation and worker limitations are also considered. An integer linear programming model is developed to represent the multi-workday ergonomic workforce scheduling problem. Its objective is to determine a minimum number of utilized workers for the given planning period such that all workers' daily hazard exposures do not exceed the permissible daily limit. An optimization software tool called ILOG CPLEX is employed to obtain the optimal solution.

This paper aims to find the optimal arrangement of consultation rooms in the specialist outpatient clinics of a hospital in Singapore to maximize the utilization factor. Doctors ’ utilization and waiting time of the patients were also optimized in this research. This was done by building and validating queuing and simulation models to predict and model the real life variance and uncertainty in the outpatient clinics. The results from the queuing theory served as a good gauge to compare the simulation results to confirm the validity of the model. Key words: simulation, health services, optimal utilization. 1

Abstract—There were extensive researches on the topic of performance management in various organizations across multiple fields. Literature on performance measurements in logistics can be divided into specific measures and their application in the context or complete framework for performance measurements. In this paper, the focus of the discussion will be the formulation of the framework which handles performance measurements for package delivery service and how the metrics measure the performance and their application in the context of package delivery service.

As healthcare costs increase, there is a need for hospitals to look for ways to contain costs and to achieve a higher efficiency in their clinics without sacrificing quality. Just as many businesses have successfully reduced costs and gained competitive advantage by reengineering business processes, hospitals are now beginning to adopt a process-oriented approach and redesign the way certain processes are carried out to achieve cost containment and efficiency. Using computer simulation, this study assessed the efficiency of the consultation process in hospital clinics and recommended the optimal number of doctors, at which doctors as well as consultation rooms could be most efficiently utilized and patient wait times could be reduced. The results show that computer simulation is an effective tool supporting decisions on needs for doctors in the consultation process in hospital clinics.
