2007, was devoted to the recent developments in the theory of distribution of zeros of poly-nomials and transcendental entire functions and some of their most important applications. The activities focused mainly on the following topics and their interplay: 1. Pólya-Schur problems: classification of linear preservers of polynomials and transcen-dental entire functions in one or several variables with prescribed zero sets. 2. Lax-type problems: determinantal representations of multivariate G̊arding-hyperbolic polynomials and related objects. 3. Properties and applications of stable polynomials and polynomials with the half-plane property in combinatorics, matrix theory, optimization and statistical mechanics. The first topic goes back to Laguerre and Pólya-Schur and is intimately connected with the other two, as shown by the recent solutions to the Pólya-Schur problem for univariate hyperbolic (i.e., real-rooted) polynomials [BBS2] and the 1958 Lax conjecture for G̊arding-hyperbolic polynomials in three variables [HV,LPR], respectively. The notion of hyperbolic-ity in one variable has several important extensions to higher dimensions [BBS1], in particu-lar the well-known concept of G̊arding-hyperbolic polynomial [Gar]. The latter was initially

and Index Terms text should be 10 point Times New Roman, full justified and contained within one paragraph. Begin the Abstract with the word Abstract-in Times New Roman italic. The entire Abstract should be bold. Do not Indent. Use a standard dash not a long dash after the words “Abstract”. Do not cite references in the abstract. The final paper abstract should be approximately 150- 200 words; this example abstract is 188 words, thus you can use the length of this abstract as an example of a standard abstract. Avoid using abbreviations in the abstract. A copy of this abstract will be copied and included in the conference program book so please follow these guidelines to ensure every presentation will have an abstract in the program book. Also when you submit your paper online make sure you replace the existing abstract you have in the text box on the paper submission form with this new version. Index Terms- About four, alphabetical order, key words or phrases, separated by commas (for suggestions: Cameraready, FIE format, Preparation of papers, Two-column format).
