The use of organic farming systems for crop production in the U.S. has grown rapidly during the last decade, but is still under 0.5 percent of total U.S. farmland—substantially less than in many countries in Europe and elsewhere. Within the U.S., conversion to organic farming systems has been more extensive in particular commodity sectors and regions. In California, for example, about two percent of the state’s crop acreage is managed under organic farming systems, and over

The Skill Content of Recent Technological Change: An Empirical Exploration
, 2000
"... Recent empirical and case study evidence documents a strong association between the adoption of computers and increased use of college educated or non-production workers. With few exceptions, the conceptual link explaining how computer technology complements skilled labor or substitutes for unskille ..."

In this paper, we apply an understanding of what computers do – the execution of procedural or rules-based logic – to develop a simple model of how the widespread adoption of computers in the workplace might alter workplace skill demands. An essential contention

Industrial Factors in the Development of 3D Graphics-Based Engineering Documentation and Potential Timeline for Widespread Adoption
"... ABSTRACT- At some point in the future, it seems likely that organizations such as the Engineering Design Graphics Division will be concerned with the use of 3D computer graphics when dealing with the large-scale (or “OEM”) manufacturing environment. Large-scale manufacturing will be based on 3D grap ..."

Subsequently, this paper attempts to assemble a timeline for the various factors. This leads to an estimated timeframe for the start of the widespread

Fodder shrubs are highly attractive to farmers as protein supplements for their dairy cows because they require little or no cash. Nor do they require land as they are grown along boundaries, pathways, and across the contour to curb soil erosion. But like many agroforestry and natural resource management practices, fodder shrubs are “knowledge intensive”, that is, they require considerable skills that most farmers do not have such as raising seedlings in a nursery, pruning trees, and feeding the leaves to livestock. Because of the difficulty in acquiring knowledge and skills and at times, seed, the technology does not spread easily. Nevertheless, over
