In this paper, we present MERR (Minimum EnergyRelayRouting),anovelapproachtoenergy-efficient dataroutingtoasinglecontrolcenterinalinearsensor topology.Basedonanoptimaltransmissiondistance,relay paths are established that aim for minimizing the total powerconsumption.WestudyMERRbybothstochastic analysis and simulation, comparing it to other possible approachesandatheoreticallyoptimalprotocol.Wefind thatMERRconsumes80%lesspowerthanconventional approachesandperformsclosetothetheoreticaloptimum forpracticablesensornetworks.
