"... distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Abstract The microphase separation of block copolymer (BCP) thin films can afford a simple and cost-effective means to studying nanopattern surfaces, and especially the fabrication of nanocircuitry. However, ..."

Here, we describe how emerging microscopic methods may be used to study complex BCP patterns and reveal their rich detail. These methods

The method works by first constructing a brain-like computational structure to control the robot, and then by using infant behavioural patterns to build a hand-eye coordination learning

distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Abstract Micro-capillaries with an engineered hidden surface were produced via the self-rolling of polymer thin films whose surface was photochemically modified so as to coat it with silver nanoparticles. The polymer films consisted of a poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) layer top-coated with a polystyrene layer. When immersed in acid water, they underwent self-rolling due to selective swelling of the poly(4-vinyl pyridine) layer. The generation of Ag nanoparticles at the inner structure of the 40 µm-wide capillaries was carried out by a photochemically initiated reduction process. It was confirmed by UV-VIS spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. The possibility of designing non-uniform distributions of silver particles at the inner surface of the tubes was also established. It consists of photopatterning the top of the film- the polystyrene side- prior to the swelling/self-rolling step. This approach provides new opportunities for the design of micro-compartments for micro-biological research and for micro-fluidics applications.

distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Abstract This risk profile on non-O157 verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli serotypes (non-O157 VTEC) in produce, beef, milk and dairy products in Canada, outlines associated potential public health threats, while identifying areas where additional data are required to inform microbiological risk assessment and risk management action. The following outputs of this risk profile may contribute to risk analysis relating to non-O157 VTEC in Canada: • Beef products, milk and dairy products, and produce are all food commodities associated with non-O157 illness outbreaks. Some non-O157 VTEC may cause foodborne illnesses similar to E. coli O157:H7, however in general, non-O157 VTEC cause less severe illness or lead to asymptomatic infections. In

distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Abstract Our goal in this article is to reflect on the role LEGO robotics has played in college engineering education over the last 15 years, starting with the introduction of the RCX in 1998 and ending with the introduction of the EV3 in 2013. By combining a modular computer programming language with a modular building platform, LEGO Education has allowed students (of all ages) to become active leaders in their own education as they build everything from animals for a robotic zoo to robots that play children’s games. Most importantly, it allows all students to develop different solutions to the same problem to provide a learning community. We look first at how the recent developments in the learning sciences can help in promoting student learning in robotics. We then share four case studies of successful college-level implementations that build on these developments.
