"... Abstract—This paper presents the design and experimental results of a cochlea filter in analog very large scale integration (VLSI) which highly resembles physiologically measured response of the mammalian cochlea. The filter consists of three specialized sub-filter stages which respectively provide ..."

passive response in low frequencies, actively tunable response in mid-band frequencies and ultra-steep roll-off at transition frequencies from pass-band to stop-band. The sub-filters are implemented in balanced ladder topology using floating active inductors. Measured results from the fabricated chip show

Pulse shapes that outperform traditional UWB antenna/waveform combination

by Mehrdad Mirshafiei, Mohammad Abtahi, Patrick Larochelle, Leslie A. Rusch - in Proc. IEEE Globecom Conf , 2010
"... Abstract—Traditionally the Gaussian monocycle pulse and its higher derivatives have been proposed and deployed as impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) pulses. Although relatively easy to generate in electronics, these pulses are ill-adapted to the sharp cutoffs in the US Federal Communications Comm ..."

Commission (FCC) mask. The combination of these pulses with passband UWB antennas with steep roll-off improves power efficiency vis-à-vis the FCC mask. This approach is still quite sub-optimal and pulse shaping can provide marked improvement (to 3 dB) over the best traditional combinations. We show

UTILIZING BIOMIMETIC IMAGE PROCESSING TO RAPIDLY DETECT ROLLOVER THREATS

This thesis presents CraneTracker, a multi-modal sensing and communication system for monitoring migratory species at the continental level. By exploiting the robust and extensive cellular infrastructure across the continent, traditional mobile wireless sensor networks can be extended to enable reliable, low-cost monitoring of migratory species. The developed multi-tier architecture yields ecologists with unconventional behavior in-formation not furnished by alternative tracking systems at such a large scale and for a low-cost. The simulation, development and implementation of the CraneTracker soft-ware system is presented. The system is shown effective through multiple proxy deploy-
