In search of the true value of . . .
, 2004

Estimation of True Values in Radioimmunoassays

We tested the accuracy of radloimmunoassays for two hormones, progesterone and estradiol, in relation to the use of two different antisera in each assay and to the degree of purification from plasma before the assay was done. Each analyte was assayed either in a diethyl ether extract, in a zone eluted from a Sephadex LH20 chromatographic column, or in fractions of a chromatographic zone (from Sephadex LH20 or Celite) that passed a test of “radiochemical purity. ” Statistically indistinguishable results were obtained in the assay of radiochemically pure fractions of both analytes, irrespective of the antiserum used. In addition, one of the antisera from each hormone gave equivalent results in the radioimmunoassay of ether extracts, even with no preceding chromatography. We demonstrated in this way that results obtained with use of highly specific antisera may, after a
The True Value of a Sample Composition Is There

The relationship between return and market value of common stocks
 Journal of Financial Economics
, 1981
"... This study examines the empirical relattonship between the return and the total market value of NYSE common stocks. It is found that smaller firms have had htgher risk adjusted returns, on average, than larger lirms. This ‘size effect ’ has been in existence for at least forty years and is evidence ..."

The true value of irrigation water in the Olifants River basin
 Western Cape. Agrekon
, 1997
"... The true value of irrigation water in the Olifants river irrigation system is determined using a static deterministic linear programming model. This paper illustrates that a water market will generate price signals which will reflect the true scarcity of water. If the water market is left to operate ..."

A PolynomialTime Approximation Algorithm for the Permanent of a Matrix with NonNegative Entries
 JOURNAL OF THE ACM
, 2004
"... We present a polynomialtime randomized algorithm for estimating the permanent of an arbitrary n ×n matrix with nonnegative entries. This algorithm—technically a “fullypolynomial randomized approximation scheme”—computes an approximation that is, with high probability, within arbitrarily small spec ..."

Calibrating noise to sensitivity in private data analysis
