Motivation through the Design of Work: Test of a Theory. Organizational Behavior and Human Performance,

by ] Richard Hackman , Grec R Oldham , 1976
"... A model is proposed that specifies the conditions under which individuals will become internally motivated to perform effectively on their jobs. The model focuses on the interaction among three classes of variables: (a) the psychological states of employees that must be present for internally motiv ..."

Adapting to Subsequent Changes of Environment by Learning Policy Preconditions

by Tohgoroh Matsui, Nobuhiro Inuzuka, Hirohisa Seki , 2002
"... This paper describes a method which senses a changing environment by collecting failed instances, uses concept learning for acquiring a precondition for a control policy, and partially modifies the policy for adapting to subsequent changes of the environment by reinforcement learning. A precondition ..."

Tracking multiple independent targets: Evidence for a parallel tracking mechanism

by Zenon W. Pylyshyn, Ron W. Storm - Spatial Vision , 1988
"... Abstract-There is considerable evidence that visual attention is concentrated at a single locus in the visual field, and that this locus can be moved independent of eye movements. Are Correlations of Stock Returns Justified by Subsequent Changes in National Outputs

In an integrated world capital market, the same pricing kernel is applicable to all securities. We apply this idea to the stock returns of different countries. We investigate the underlying determinants of cross-country stock return correlations. First, we determine, for a given, measured degree of commonality of country outputs, what should be the degree of correlation of national stock returns. We propose a framework that contains a statistical model for output and an intertemporal financial market model for stock returns. We then attempt to match the correlations generated by the model with measured correlations. Our results show that under the hypothesis of market segmentation, the model correlations are much smaller than observed correlations. However, assuming world markets are integrated, our model correlations closely match observed correlations. ∗Dumas and Ruiz acknowledge gratefully the support of the HEC Foundation. Cognitive consequences of forced compliance

by Leon Festinger, James, M. Carlsmith, Marilyn M - J. Abnormal Soc. Psych , 1959
"... WHAT happens to a person's private opinion if he is forced to do or say something contrary to that opinion? Only recently has there been, any experimental work related to this question. He reasoned that if the person is induced to make an overt statement contrary to his private opinion by the offer of some reward, then the greater the reward offered, the greater should be the subsequent opinion change. His data, however, did
