Serverless Network File Systems

by Thomas E. Anderson, Michael D. Dahlin, Jeanna M. Neefe, David A. Patterson, Drew S. Roselli, Randolph Y. Wang - ACM TRANSACTIONS ON COMPUTER SYSTEMS , 1995
"... In this paper, we propose a new paradigm for network file system design, serverless network file systems. While traditional network file systems rely on a central server machine, a serverless system utilizes workstations cooperating as peers to provide all file system services. Any machine in the sy ..."

Our approach uses this location independence, in combination with fast local area networks, to provide better performance and scalability than traditional file systems. Further, because any machine in the system can assume the responsibilities of a

Cartel: a distributed mobile sensor computing system

by Bret Hull, Vladimir Bychkovsky, Yang Zhang, Kevin Chen, Michel Goraczko, Allen Miu, Eugene Shih, Hari Balakrishnan, Samuel Madden - In 4th ACM SenSys , 2006
"... CarTel is a mobile sensor computing system designed to collect, process, deliver, and visualize data from sensors located on mobile units such as automobiles. A CarTel node is a mobile embedded computer coupled to a set of sensors. Each node gathers and processes sensor readings locally before deliv ..."

Cooperative Caching: Using Remote Client Memory to Improve File System Performance

by Michael D. Dahlin, Randolph Y. Wang, Thomas E. Anderson, David A. Patterson - IN PROCEEDINGS OF THE FIRST SYMPOSIUM ON OPERATING SYSTEMS DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION , 1994
"... Emerging high-speed networks will allow machines to access remote data nearly as quickly as they can access local data. This trend motivates the use of cooperative caching: coordinating the file caches of many machines distributed on a LAN to form a more effective overall file cache. In this paper w ..."

amended by letters dated January 2, and February 12, 1979. The amendment revises the Technical Specifications to reflect the core reload utilizing General Electric's retrofit 8x8R fuel.. For plant operations up to and including end-of-cycle (all rods out) conditions, the proposed Technical Specification changes have been found acceptable. However, as agreed to by Niagara Mohawk personnel, two licensing restrictions have been imposed for operation after the end-of-cycle during coastdown. The coastdown minimum power level is limited to 70 percent, and increasing core power via reduced feedwater heating is precluded. Copies of the Safety Evaluation and the Notice of Issuance are also

KLAIM: a Kernel Language for Agents Interaction and Mobility

by Rocco De Nicola, Gianluigi Ferrari, Rosario Pugliese - IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering , 1997
"... We investigate the issue of designing a kernel programming language for Mobile Computing and describe Klaim, a language that supports a programming paradigm where processes, like data, can be moved from one computing environment to another. The language consists of a core Linda with multiple tuple s ..."
