Oseltamivir Prophylactic Regimens Prevent H5N1 Influenza Morbidity and Mortality in a Ferret Model

by unknown authors
"... Background. Current oseltamivir prophylactic regimensmay not be as effective against highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza viruses as they are against less pathogenic strains. An optimal regimen is urgently needed. Methods. Ferrets were given the neuraminidase inhibitor oseltamivir orally for 10 days (5 ..."

Combination antiretroviral therapy is now standard care and received by the majority of HIV-infected patients in this country [1]. Although HIV-infected patients are surviving longer, the long-term consequences of prolonged survival under such ther-apy remain unde®ned. Alteration of cancer risk is of particular concern, and HIV-associated cancers have already emerged as a leading cause of death among patients with AIDS [2]. In particular, HIV infection is associated with increased in-cidence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), exceeding 1 % an-nually in recent data [1, 3]. NHL incidence increases markedly with progression of HIV infection, although the association with level of CD4 lymphopenia is less pronounced than that for many other opportunistic infections [4, 5]. Among the AIDS-de®ning opportunistic illnesses, NHL has accounted for 3 % of clinical AIDS cases in the United States [6].

Effects of dosing regimen on accumulation, retention and prophylactic efficacy of liposomal amphotericin B

by Peter J. Smith, Jon A. Olson, David Constable, Julie Schwartz, Richard T. Proffitt, Jill P. Adler-moore
"... Objectives: We hypothesized that effective prophylactic treatment of fungal infections would require adequate drug penetration and retention at potential infection sites. Using a mouse model, we examined liposomal amphotericin B (L-AmB) biodistribution, cell localization and retention in kidneys, lu ..."

ECONOMICS OF EARLY PROPHYLACTIC TREATMENT REGIMEN AT CALVING ON REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE IN SURTI BUFFALOES

by M D Patel, K K Tyagi, A B Fulsoundar, L M Sorathiya

Prophylactic Antifungal Agents Used After Lung Transplantation

by Elizabeth Marino, Jason C Gallagher
"... Since the first series of lung trans-plantations in the late 1980s there has been an increasing number of suc-cessful transplants.1 Transplant recipients are highly susceptible for a multitude of infections that vary depending on type of transplant, potency of immunosuppres-sion, and time lapsed sin ..."

Comparison of Short Vs. Long Half-Life Single-Dose Prophylactic Antibiotics Cesarean Section
